On
2 February, during a meeting on the practical application of Faulkes'
telescopes in schools, which was held in the Czacki Comprehensive
School in Warsaw, the participants of the workshop were honoured by a
40 minute long visit of Her Royal Highness Princess Anne.
Despite
the requirements of the diplomatic protocol, the Princes did find time
to chat with each of the project participants. She listened diligently
to the pupils explanation and was always apt to ask some extra
questions, revealing interest by far beyond the requirements of a
routine official visit. The team representin the MOA (YAO, Youth
Astronomical Observatory) presented a photograph of the planet Saturn,
taken during the November session with the telescope located in Hawaii.
The photo will be used in an astronomic competition and is likely to
become the beginner of our own galleryof the photos of astronomic
bodies. During the Princess' visit there were permanently working
pupils on the computer keyboard, thus performing the prescheduled
observations. Each photograph to appear on the screen, the effect of
those observations, was praised and applauded, sometimes very loudly,
which did not seem to disturb the Eminent Guest. Before the end of the
visit, gifted with a small bunch of flowers and an album of
photographs, The Princess unveiled a commemoration plaque, entered her
inscription in the Visitors' Book, and having taken her leave of those
present, left to perform Her further diplomatic duties and committments.
On
the other hand, however, The Minister of Education and Science,
Professor Michał Seweryński did stay a bit longer with the project
members. In an unrestraint atmosphere the issues were touched upon
concerning the teching of physics in schools and the questions
concerning the use of the young peoples' leisure. The minister
expressed his respect to the techer participating in the project and
did promise his support in the acquisition of the computer laboratories, equipped up to
the present day standards.
The
opportunity for the direct dialogue with the Princess Anne, her
interest in the pupils' exploits, the opportunity toask questions to
the Minister - all that makes the memories of the meeting to survive
long in the memories of the participants. The hospitality and the
splendid facilities provided for by the Organizers - the British
Council, Center for Theoretical Physics Polish Academy of Science and the Czacki Comprehensive School in Warsaw - do deserve our
most sincere thans - which this way we do express.

odbyło się w Liceum im.

Czackiego w Warszawie, uczestnicy warsztatów zaszczyceni
zostali
trwającą 40 minut wizytą Jej Królewskiej Mości Księżniczki
Anny.
Mimo
wymagań protokołu dyplomatycznego, Księżniczka znalazła czas, żeby
porozmawiać z każdym z uczestników projektu. Uważnie
słuchała objaśnień
udzielanych przez uczniów i zawsze zadawała dodatkowe
pytania,
wykazując zainteresowanie znacznie wykraczające poza wymogi oficjalnej
wizyty. Grupa reprezentująca MOA pokazała fotografię planety Saturn,
wykonaną podczas listopadowej sesji teleskopem na Hawajach. Zdjęcie to
będzie wykorzystane w konkursie astronomicznym i stanie się zaczątkiem
naszej własnej galerii zdjęć obiektów astronomicznych. W
trakcie wizyty
Księżniczki przy pulpicie komputera stale pracowali kolejni uczniowie,
wykonując zaplanowane wcześniej obserwacje. Każda pojawiająca się na
ekranie fotografia, rezultat tych obserwacji, witana była przez
uczestników brawami i – nieraz bardzo głośnym
– aplauzem, co jednak nie
przeszkadzało dostojnemu gościowi. Na zakończenie wizyty, obdarowana
maleńkim bukiecikiem kwiatów i albumem fotografii,
Księżniczka
odsłoniła pamiątkową tablicę, wpisała się do księgi pamiątkowej i
pożegnawszy się z obecnymi, odjechała pełnić swe obowiązki
dyplomatyczne.
Dłużej natomiast został z uczestnikami projektu
Minister Edukacji i Nauki, prof. Michał Seweryński. W swobodnej
atmosferze omawiano problemy dotyczące nauczania fizyki w szkole i
zagadnienia dotyczące problematyki zagospodarowania czasu wolnego
młodzieży. Pan minister wyraził uznanie dla nauczycieli uczestniczących
w projekcie i obiecał pomoc w pozyskaniu nowocześnie wyposażonych
pracowni komputerowych.
Możliwość bezpośredniego dialogu z
Księżniczką Anną, jej zainteresowanie pracami uczniów,
możliwość
zadawania pytań panu ministrowi – to wszystko sprawia, że
wrażenia ze
spotkania długo będą żyły w pamięci jego uczestników.
Gościnność i
znakomite warunki stworzone przez organizatorów –
British Council, Centrum Fizyki Teoretycznej Polskiej Akademii Nauk i
Liceum im. T. Czackiego w Warszawie – zasługują na nasze
serdeczne
podziękowanie – co niniejszym czynimy.
